Over 10 years, there was something special at Gampe Thaya. In a mobile cheese factory, the farmer Jakob Prantl made cheese at the alpine cabin. In summer his cows were grazing and provicing fresh milk, which was made to cheese and after the ripening process, it was served.
Due to a restructuring of the farm and the keeping of the cow, Family Prantl no more produces cheese.
The Tyrolean grey cattle spend the summer in the mountains and enjoys the best grass up there, as well as many herbs and flowers. You can probably imagine that these are very happy cows. The obtained meat is used for sausages, soup and other meat dishes.
At the End of September 2019 we took part at the 25th international cheese-olmypic games in Galtür/Tyrol. Over 100 cheese producers from Austria, Germany, South Tyrol and Switzerland were battling for the Golden Dairyman's Harp in five categories.
The cheese "Gampe Kaas" from the farmer and hoster of Almwirtschaft Gampe Thaya Jakob Prantl got the dairyman's harp in silver.
Also in South Tyrol we got an award for the Gampe cheese. We got the rating for "excellent quality".
