Mobile cheese factory wagon at the Gampe Thaya
Taste the lovely homemade cheese
This is unique in Ötztal and a specialty when you come and visit the Gampe Thaya – a mobile cheese factory at the alpine cabin. In the summer the cows are grazing and providing us with fresh milk, which will at once made to cheese and after the ripening process it is served.
The Tyrolean grey cattle spends the summer right in front of the Gampe Thaya and enjoys the best grass up there, as well as many herbs and flowers. You can probably imagine that these happy cows give the best milk. This milk is used for making cheese. Jakob, the farmer and host at the Gampe Thaya produces the cheese from 100% raw milk from the Tyrolean grey cattle.
At the End of September 2019 we took part at the 25th international cheese-olmypic games in Galtür/Tyrol. Over 100 cheese producers from Austria, Germany, South Tyrol and Switzerland were battling for the Golden Dairyman's Harp in five categories.
The cheese "Gampe Kaas" from the farmer and hoster of Almwirtschaft Gampe Thaya Jakob Prantl got the dairyman's harp in silver.
Also in South Tyrol we got an award for the Gampe cheese. We got the rating for "excellent quality".
